Our Story
Our Journey Begins.....
Our journey began with a simple, yet profoundly impactful belief: that dogs have the unique ability to bring out the best in us. At the heart of our mission is a commitment to educate, inspire, and build confidence through engaging and well-designed programmes that resonate with all who participate. Our humble beginnings, focused on spreading joy to children facing end-of-life care, have since evolved into a vibrant community of healing, learning, and mutual growth. Over the years, our efforts have reached thousands of children across the Greater Manchester area, with our therapists and their beloved dogs becoming integral and much-loved members of many local schools. Our story is one of growth, learning, and an abundance of wagging tails, reflecting the joy and positive change we bring.
Here's to 2017!
It all started in January 2017, when I approached a local children’s hospice with a proposal to introduce our dogs to their care program, aiming to enrich the lives of children undergoing palliative care. The response was overwhelmingly positive. As I walked through the hospice, meeting the children and seeing their faces light up at the mere mention of a dog visit, I felt a deep connection and a burgeoning sense of pride. Despite the heart-wrenching circumstances, the joy and excitement these children expressed were palpable and deeply moving. Although the hospice later closed due to funding cuts, the seeds of our mission had already been sown.
Spring has sprung!
In the spring of 2017, we launched our Reading Therapies Programme in several primary schools within the borough of Bury. This initiative was designed to support children with their literacy skills, and the results were remarkable. Children participating in the programme demonstrated significant improvements, with many advancing by at least three reading levels. The success of this programme not only bolstered our resolve but also highlighted the potential for expansion into other areas of need.
Amazing Success!
Our successes in Bury led us to Trafford Social Services, where we were invited to work with children in foster care. This new venture allowed us to extend our reach and refine our approach, adapting our programmes to meet the diverse needs of children in different life circumstances. Our work in Trafford has not only reinforced the therapeutic benefits of canine companionship but has also helped foster a sense of stability and affection for children who benefit immensely from consistent, unconditional support.
